Nathalie Karg is pleased to present CREATURES, an exhibition of new sculptures by Marta Pierobon. Pierobon’s work is concerned with memory, death, spirituality, identity, and a never-ending search for meaning in what surrounds her. The artist invokes iconography in her playful and dream-like style, and regularly uses mediums like clay and plaster; calling upon themes of tradition and identity that relate to the very use of the material itself. Pierobon brings us close to objects of the intimate and the immediate, and investigates them in a way that is unexpected; suggesting that they can all be “invested, distorted and reinvented.”

Nathalie Karg is pleased to present Balancing Act, an exhibition featuring new paintings by Lisa Beck. Lisa Beck’s work is driven by her preoccupations and obsessions concerning the relationship of the particular and the universal. For Beck, “the particular” is a shorthand for the observable aspects of reality, such as the landscape and our bodies. “The universal” is a shorthand for things that are too vast or too tiny for us to grasp completely, like space and atomic physics, which become a kind of abstraction. Her most prevalent motif has been the circle in all its forms and references: atoms, solids, voids, cells, selves, stars, specificity, and eternity. The artist’s work is defined by the combination of opposing but related visual phenomena like positive and negative, pattern and randomness, flatness and depth, referential and abstract imagery. Much of her work involves the integration of these opposites, emphasizing their interaction, rather than the divide.

"How can a body be present but also have the autonomy to choose how it is seen?” The question, asked by Sangram Majumdar himself, remains to be ever-present throughout his works in Confetti in the Shade. He sees this question as an urgent necessity against the constant pressure of easy categorization and expected essentialization. Using psychological metaphors such as shadows, reflections, and windows, Miko Veldkamp delves into his personal memories. The figures in his paintings - often after his own image, family members or non-descript and ghost-like - are in a constant state of transition, as a commentary on the genre of self portraiture.

Nathalie Karg Gallery is pleased to present Unrequited Love, curated by Vera Iliatova and Sarah Peters. On view from June 21st to July 20th, 2023, the exhibition features work by Ann Agee, Inna Babaeva, Nina Childress, Jennifer Paige Cohen, Jenny Dubnau, Dana Frankfort, Louis Fratino, Rema Ghuloum, Ryan Johnson, Alex Jackson, Dennis Kardon, Craig Kucia, Julia Kunin, Susan Lichtman, Jennifer Macdonald, Shari Mendelson, Ohad Meromi, John Newman, Keiko Narahashi, Enrico Riley, Elsa Sahal, Matt Saunders, Michelle Segre, Jeremy Stenger, Alessandro Teoldi, Hannah van Bart, Jenna Westra, and Alan Wiener. In this exhibition, one’s “unrequited love” stands as a metaphor for the artists’ yearning to grasp at something in their work that remains forever outside of their reach.

Nathalie Karg Gallery is pleased to present Summer Crush, a solo presentation by Emerald Rose Whipple (b. 1989, California, USA). Summer Crush is composed of oil paintings from her early 2010s archive, each originating from a series of hers: Genesis: Let there be Light (2015), Eden (2013), or Natural High (2014). Whipple's practice carries a subtle undertone of patience. Enamored by the techniques of the Pointillists, her interrupted brushstrokes asks the viewer to stay with them just a few moments longer, and it feels romantic to adjust your eyes to the scenery it offers.

Nathalie Karg is pleased to present an exhibition of new works by Berlin-based artist Katja Strunz. Restored Spalls: Unfolding While Falling is Strunz’s first solo-exhibition with the gallery. Falling and folding are integral to the work of Berlin-based artist Katja Strunz. As in the English language, the German word Fall denotes vertical movement, often suggesting chance, but in German it also describes an event or case, and builds compounds, so that an Einfall can be an idea that falls upon you or possibly even an invasion. In this way, Fall entails coincidence but also precision, it transgresses boundaries. To fold (falten) is to generate forms, it can bring points together and produce entanglement. For Strunz, it is a horizontal movement, without directional or temporal limitation—potentially infinite.

Nathalie Karg is pleased to present Pictures Aside, a solo show of new paintings by Tim Wilson. Pictures Aside is Wilson’s second solo-exhibition with the gallery. “Everything is deceptive, only the mask never lies.” —Pierre de Marivaux. On the surface, Wilson presents a group of paintings depicting an assortment of mirrored reflections, paintings, prints, photographs, and reproductions. These pictures within the paintings adorn a variety of provisional spaces; foyers, waiting areas, bedside tables, drawing rooms, and motels. Like his previous work, Wilson recasts images of interior spaces and set dressing found in the seemingly endless availability of streaming television and film. These repurposed screen grabs are then filtered through the historical lens of premodern tendencies in representation.

Nathalie Karg Gallery is pleased to present Sparks, Simon Ko's first solo show in the United States. Displaying brand new paintings, Sparks draws upon the central themes of Ko's practice: interpersonal relationships and their highs and lows.

Nathalie Karg Gallery is pleased to present Heidi Hahn's second exhibition at the gallery, the first having been cut short by the Covid-19 lockdown. The show presents a new body of large-scale paintings created by Hahn this year.
